The survey reveals that a significant majority of companies are prioritizing a return to in-person work, with many organizations emphasizing the benefits of collaboration, productivity, and company culture that come with physical office presence. According to the survey, 64% of companies already require employees to be in the office at least part-time, and this trend is expected to continue, with 23% planning to bring employees back to the office by 2025.

ResumeBuilder.com, a premier resource for professional resume templates and career advice, has published a recent survey report assessing companies’ return-to-office (RTO) plans. The report also provides insights into the motivations behind these findings.

Survey results also spotlight the effects RTO policies have had on companies. The most significant improvements from RTO were seen in employee relationships (77%), followed by worker productivity (69%), company culture (70%), revenue (61%), and worker retention (54%). Companies with plans to RTO in 2025 also expect to see these factors improve.

“In recent years companies have been attempting to bring employees back to the office, often citing improved productivity (though not definitively proven), increased revenue, and a more cohesive company culture as reasons,” says chief career advisor Stacie Haller. “However, the optimal in-office model remains in flux.”

This survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder.com and conducted online by the survey platform Pollfish. It was launched Aug. 15, 2024, and 764 business leaders completed the survey. Eligibility criteria included being over 25 years old, having a household income of at least $75,000, possessing education beyond high school, holding a managerial-level or higher role, and working at a company with more than 10 employees. Additionally, respondents confirmed via screening questions that their company had moved to a remote model during the pandemic.
